MY STORY
Do you think sustainability is not for you? Let me tell you my story.
I wasn't born an environmentalist or nature lover. I grew up surrounded by concrete, not trees — my closest bond with nature was the summer sea and the sunlight that painted every day. I loved food (especially sweets!) and the word “sport” made me sweat just by hearing it.
I was young, carefree, and I didn’t think much about my health — let alone the planet’s.
Until life decided to shake things up.
But that was not for long.
2008: A baby. A crisis. A wake-up call.
That year, I was 23.
My first child was born in February.
And right after, the economic crisis exploded.
BOOM! That’s exactly how it felt inside my head — all at once, joy, fear, and confusion.
If you lived through 2008, you know what I mean. And if not, imagine standing at the edge of a new life when the ground beneath you starts to tremble.
A new country, a new beginning.
One year later, I was living in Spain — a new mother, a student, and a dreamer with a very small budget. Finding work wasn’t easy, so I began tracking every euro I spent. My goal was simple: reduce waste, survive, and hopefully, breathe a little lighter.
By fixing what I could instead of buying new, saving water and energy, and taking better care of my clothes, I began to see my bills shrink. Every small act felt like a quiet victory.
That’s when it happened — I realized that small changes truly make a difference.
By fixing what I could instead of buying new, saving water and energy, and taking better care of my clothes, I began to see my bills shrink. Every small act felt like a quiet victory.
Every small cutback added up.
It might sound trivial now, but back then it was a revelation. And if it doesn’t sound trivial to you, keep reading — because this is where everything started to change.
When I looked closer at my expenses, I noticed one thing: most of my money went into food I didn’t need — snacks, drinks, pre-packaged meals, small indulgences that added up.
So I started comparing prices. And surprise — fruits and vegetables cost less than packaged food.
Cooking from scratch became my way to heal.
I discovered local markets, met farmers, and slowly, food became more than fuel — it became connection.
That’s when I learned an important truth:
sometimes we need to take a step back to move forward.
From saving money to saving meaning
The real cost of “cheap” food
It’s expensive for your wallet, because much of what you pay is for marketing, packaging, and transport — not quality.
It’s expensive for your health, leaving you more tired and hungry.
It’s expensive for the planet, creating waste and pollution.
And it’s expensive for society, rewarding corporations while farmers struggle to survive.
I decided I didn’t want to pay that price anymore.
I wanted to respect my body and the Earth — without harming either.
From awareness to purpose
As I started working as a market researcher, I saw firsthand how the industry shapes our desires — how it sells us what we don’t need, by making us believe we do.
That’s when I made a choice: to live differently. To live simply, beautifully, consciously.
And one day, the question came to me:
How could I help others feel the same transformation — calmly, joyfully, sustainably?
